Our Story
Defined Movement Dance Studio was founded in February 2015 with a simple dream: to create a place where dancers of all ages could learn, grow, and experience the joy of movement.
What began with adult technique classes soon expanded to children's classes in the fall of 2015, leading to our very first recital in June 2016.
Today, as a small-town dance studio in the heart of Lewisburg, Tennessee, that dream continues to grow.
At Defined Movement, we are passionate about providing high-quality dance instruction in a welcoming and encouraging environment where every dancer feels valued, supported, and inspired.
While we believe proper technique provides the foundation for every style of dance, we also believe the lessons learned extend far beyond the studio.
Our mission is to Cultivate Creativity, Build Confidence, and Instill a Passion for Dance. We strive to help every student discover not only how to move with strength and grace, but also how to express themselves with confidence, perseverance, and joy.
Whether a dancer is taking their very first class or continuing to develop their skills, our hope is that they feel at home here—growing in their abilities, forming lasting friendships, and discovering the unique gifts they have been given.
We are honored to be part of each dancer's journey and look forward to helping them create beautiful movement and lifelong memories for years to come.
Classes are currently held at the Lewisburg Recreation Center in Lewisburg, Tennessee.
Meet the Team
Meet our Founder, Director & Instructor - Mrs. Katelin McNutt.
Dance has been part of Katelin's story since she was 3 years old. What began as a childhood passion became a lifelong dream when she opened Defined Movement in 2015.
But if you ask Katelin what matters most, it isn't the recitals or perfect technique—it's the people.
Having struggled with self-worth, confidence, and wondering if she was ever "enough," she knows how life-changing it is when someone believes in you. That's why her passion goes far beyond teaching dance. Her heart is to help every student discover their confidence, recognize their value, and leave the studio believing they are capable of more than they ever imagined.
Katelin believes everyone needs a creative outlet. Whether she's teaching Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballroom, or choreographing for the stage, her goal is always the same: helping students understand the why behind what they're learning so they can grow with confidence—not just memorize steps. Those "lightbulb moments" when a dancer finally believes, "I can do this," are what make her heart come alive.
Beyond Defined Movement, Katelin has choreographed for local musical theatre productions, pageants, weddings, and is proud to be mUvmethod Level 1 Certified.
When she's not at the studio, you'll find her spending time with her family, enjoying coffee and a good book, caring for her indoor plants, or singing along to her favorite musical theatre soundtrack.
At the end of the day, Defined Movement has never been just about creating great dancers. It's about creating a place where every student feels seen, encouraged, challenged, and valued.
Helping students grow into confident, kind, resilient individuals has always been—and always will be—the heartbeat behind everything Katelin does.
Meet Our Studio Admin - Amber Harris.
We are absolutely delighted to introduce a beautiful new addition to the team at Defined Movement.
Born and raised in the southernmost part of Spring Hill, Amber has spent her entire life in and around the Marshall County area.
Her love for this community runs deep, and she has dedicated much of her time to giving back to it.
In addition to her extensive administrative experience in the corporate and construction worlds, Amber has spent years serving local ministries, including foster care and adoption advocacy—a mission incredibly close to her heart as an adoptive mother.
As a mom to two dancers enrolled at Defined Movement, she experienced firsthand how wonderful Mrs. Katelin is with the kids. She jumped at the chance to get more involved! She wanted to offer a helping hand to bring the studio's full vision to life.
Amber truly thrives on the artistry of organization. She loves taking big dreams and handling the tedious, behind-the-scenes details that turn those visions into reality.
She is thrilled to be a part of what the future holds for the Defined Movement family.
